Opulent Onyx
is rich in self-mastery and unapologetic truth. Onyx is often spotted glowing in the lowlight of speakeasy lounges. They are very strong spirited, and know exactly what they like! Onyx leans in and says “It didn't happen overnight you know. But, after feeling buried by the pressure of pretending to be someone else for years… I had no choice but to step out of my shell and show the world who I really am!” They say to you as you sip your drink. “It isn’t always easy, but I have a deep sense of passion and direction now. Understanding myself more deeply gives me the strength to stand up for what I believe in.”
Onyx is inspired by my experiences with Calgary's very talented drag and burlesque communities. While creating this piece, I was taking classes and attending events hosted by the Cab Co. Learning to channel in an energy I never felt worthy of before. It was beyond empowering to both witness and experience the profound action of accepting oneself. This world is kinder and brighter when we all get to be who we really are.
